Deliverables
Create a user-friendly dashboard including key performance indicators from each functional area and the overall HIM department. Make sure a benchmark is included for each key performance indicator. Create a memo or e-mail to the chief clinical officer to accompany the dashboard using these parameters:
1. There is no template provided. Part of the assignment requires the student to perform research on effective dashboards and create their own dashboard.
2. The dashboard should be created in Excel.
3. The memo or email to the chief clinical officer should include at least the following data elements as they relate to implementation: data collection method, communication plan for the managers and leads, and the HIM department timeline.
4. An APA-formatted reference must be provided to support the dashboard research. This should not be part of the memo but should be provided following the memo
Hints: Let’s talk briefly about our dashboard that is due this weekend.
#1- You have no data, so you do not need to create a sophisticated dashboard. Let’s leave that to the Data Intelligence Analyst for now.
#2- Look at it more like a data table. Look at the 5 functions within the HIM department and decide what key indicators you as the manager would like to report on. You will need to do an internet search to determine what those key indicators are. Hint- consider looking at job descriptions and analyzing job task. Indicators should be measurable. (performance or quality) I recommend drawing it out on a sheet of paper and then inputting into Excel.
Example: HIM Department- employee turnover, calling out, overtime
#3- What about the HIM department as a whole? What can you track that applies to everyone? This will be in addition to your 5 functional areas.
#4-Your memo should explain your dashboard plans to the chief clinical officer. This should be written professionally and supportive of the organizations strategic plan.
I hope this helps you think through the assignment. Please if you have any questions please reach out to me.
