How Does the Article Contribute to Our Understanding of Psychological Processes and Mechanisms?
The article contributes to understanding psychological processes and mechanisms in various ways. In the broadest sense, psychological and mechanisms understanding provide a sort of causal explanation for mental states and behaviour, frequently referring to underlying processes, systems, activities, or substances (Study: Crowds can wise up to fake news, n.d.). Researchers have sought answers for various psychological phenomena by postulating and testing such systems.
The article expresses and puts into understanding the phenomena revolving around social media networks and news institutions. Fact-checkers are sorting misinformation within the online ground (Study: Crowds can wise up to fake news, n.d.). Therefore, the article uses the above case to express understanding psychological processes and mechanisms.
What Questions Do You Have About This Line of Research and Why Is Each Question Important?
There are various questions I have about this line of research. Firstly, are there possible ways to end the social media misinformation now that using fact-checkers is not effective yet? This line is essential since it will help social media users to predict the possible future expectations on the social media misinformation (Study: Crowds can wise up to fake news, n.d.). Secondly, could the increasing tread of social media misinformation result from failure to train the fact-checkers? This is essential since they could get deeper into details rather than just focusing on the headlines.
Suggest Extensions And/Or Improvements to This Line of Research And Explain Why Each Is Important?
My suggestion for improving this kind of research is to employ a more significant number of participants and later rank them into groups according to their understanding. This will help eliminate keen participants from idlers in the research. Besides, more advanced research methods could be used to eliminate critics of the already done survey (Study: Crowds can wise up to fake news, n.d.).
Relate This Research to Topics Covered in Your Psyc 203 Lectures And/Or Textbook?
The above survey can be related to cognitive and social phycology topics. They all emphasise social awareness and how the public should express their genuine perception to one another. Also, they describe how individuals think, behave, and are influenced by others (Study: Crowds can wise up to fake news, n.d.). Other topics include behaviour and attitudes, social beliefs, cultural influences, conformity and obedience, self-knowledge and self-esteem, persuasion, group influence, and aggression.
