The story of an hour by Kate Chopin and Mary Wilkin’s freeman’s “revolt of mother” shows the lack of satisfaction in women’s lives. From the begging of the story, Sarah shows some sense of self thinks. Thus, this makes her not blindly follow some decisions her husband makes. For instance, Sarah is not satisfied with the barn building (Wilkins, 2019). She somehow tries to revolt against the decision by standing comparable to an empress while holding her crown as if it bore supremacy, but Adorinam could not change his mind. From the story, Sarah was displeased with all features of her life and expected an improved lifetime for her youngsters. Louise Mallard is also not satisfied with her life, as she has been devoid of emotions to the point that makes her wonder if it is worth living (Chopin, 2018). The domination of emotions may reflect the nature of her husband, who has entirely silenced her will. That’s why Louise Mallard is happy with the news of the death of her husband, which later on kills her.
According to my thoughts, the setting of the book story of an hour is wanting. In the story, Chopin does not give his audience more information on how his husband treated Louise Mallard. Instead, we are just given a chance to imagine the slavery she went through by relating her reaction to her husband’s death. There is a lack of evidence that she is prone to repression in simpler terms. Having such scenes could have made the story catchier and related to her final reaction, which contributed to her death (Chopin, 2018). The setting of the story of Mary Wilkin’s freeman’s “revolt of mother” makes a lot of sense as it shows us how Sarah is mistreated and tries to point out her struggle to make sure that her children are not prone to such treatment. The storyline is relevant to the future generation, showing that something must be done (Wilkins, 2019). The continued failure of Sarah to control Adorinam is later graced with success as her son joins her in the fight for freedom. In the end, Adorinam is frightened when Sarah takes control of the barn and now realizes that he has to obey Sarah.
