The eye desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR): The EMDT is a form of PTSD treatment that usually encourages the patient to focus on the issue of trauma memory, and by doing so; the patient is able to change the emotions on trauma memories in a different way. Most of the therapy treatment normally focuses on the thoughts and emotions of the PTSD in relationship to the traumatic experiences. However, in eye desensitization and reprocessing therapy, the therapists usually focus more on the traumatic memories. Then, the treatment tends to change how the traumatic memories have been stored in the mind and brain of the patient, and thus eliminates or reduces all the problems associated with the traumatic memory incidents.
Medication Treatment of PTSD
Although posttraumatic stress disorder has no specific drug for treatment, the doctors usually a certain antidepressant drug, and the drug have been used for many years. Antidepressant drug helps in controlling anxiety feeling and other symptoms that are associated with PTSD. Some of the used antidepressant medications include; Tricyclic antidepressants, e.g. Doxepin and Elavil. Then there are the mood stabilizer antidepressants like Lamictal, Also, there are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, e.g. Zoloft and Celexa, and lastly, there is antipsychotics i.e. Ability and Seroquel (Chung, AlQarni & AlMazrouei, 2018).
