Nudging FailureFailure
A nudging intervention may fail to be effective due to various reasons which are caused by different factors. Failure of any nudging technique means that the technique is not effective in the chosen context. That is, the nudging technique is not able to meet the intended goal for instance mitigating the access and spread of unverified information from unreliable sources. Some of the key factors that lead to the FailureFailure of nudging technique include the following;
7.2 Inadequate educational impact
This is one risk that is associated with the use of nudging techniques especially if the technique is used to target the unconscious brains. The impact of the nudge is usually witnessed after the nudge has been removed (Schneider et al., 2019). In some cases, the effects imposed by the use of a particular nudging technique tend to vanish quickly while other impacts last longer. In some cases, the impact introduced by a nudging technique vanishes when a new model or way of doing that particular act changes. For instance use of a default nudging technique such as the use of a double-ended printer, the impact is likely to vanish once the users begin to use a single-ended printer (Schneider et al., 2019). The same phenomenon might be experienced in cyber nudging when the previously used method is deemed to be obsolete. For instance, the use of new search tools such as Google is likely to change and adopt the new nudging techniques that are being used to nudge the Google users. In other cases, the impacts tend to be long-lasting even after the nudging intervention is removed (Schneider et al., 2019). For instance, the use of icons to warn users on the validity and reliability of the information sources may make the user be always careful when are searching for information on the online platform.
