COMPARISON OF 200 DEMOCRATIC PRIMARIES WITH 1960 PRIMARIES
Elections in the United States are usually held on every first Tuesday following the first Monday in November since the year 1845 up to date. The polls are generally held in all 50 states and districts. From 1964, the Census Bureau of the U.S. has documented the supplements of voting and registration to the population survey, which are done every two years (Bibby, 2003). Presidential elections in the United States are done every four years, involving two processes. We have the election where the voters’ power decides on the presidential office and that of the congressional seat and the process of an election where the congressional seats are the important than the others (Broder, 2003). Moreover, there are some crucial requirements for an individual to qualify as a voter of the United States. It is stated that one should be at the age of 18 and above; those voters in national elections ought to be citizens of the United States.
The U.S. presidential elections have undergone a revolution right from 1960. Alongside the changes includes the 22nd Amendment of 1951, which restricts presidential candidates and states that the president of the two previous terms cannot participate in the next elections (Cook, 2000). No serving for more than two terms as president. This was the era when presidential candidate Kennedy and Nixon realized that television debates could be used to recognize their preferred candidates. In the 1960s, the citizens could watch and listen to their candidate’s arguments without questions and remarks.
