Capstone Change Project
Strategic Plan Summary
October 24, 2021
After assessing the facility where I am working and will be implementing the change project, there
might be some resistance to this change from some of the employees. Most notably, the nurses that are
working on the floor, who may perceive the implementation of the use of a scripted communication tool at the
bedside during care as a disruption in how they are performing care and not as a communication tool that will
assist the nurses in delivering the highest quality of care.
With that in mind, the strategic plan will focus on addressing the concerns the nurses have and will
most definitely ensure them that the scripted communication tool is not in addition to their workload but will
be utilize as the communication piece and not just winging it. The scripted-communication tool being used at
the bedside during care will be patient-oriented and includes the patient in every aspect of their care. When
a patient feels as if they are in control of their care, research has shown higher compliance rates with after care,
as well as better quality of care ratings. The scripted communication tool at the bedside will assist with time
management as well. How many times have we as nurses been in with a patient and gotten so far off track in
communications that are not about the patient, patient/family teaching, and not about the patients care and
have to catch up with other duties on the floor or associated with your shift assignment.
Strategically implementing the scripted communication tool at the bedside on one of the smaller but
busier units and assess the patient satisfaction after thirty, sixty, and ninety days to find if there are any
Adjustments need to be made would be where I would like to pilot the communication tool first.
