Visual Analysis of MONA LISA by Leonardo da Vinci
Biography of Leonardo da Vinci
Leonard da Vinci was an Italian painter, sculptor, inventor, architect, draftsman, and military man. He was born in a village known as Anchiano in Tuscany, Italy, in 1452 (Blatt, 105). He was a prominent figure during the Renaissance period; however, he is still a recognized artist today whose drawings, paintings, and other works have influenced numerous artists over the years. The MONA LISA, VITRUVIAN MAN, and THE LAST SUPPER are among the most famous pieces he worked on. He incorporates a representational style in most of his works (Blatt, 105). Da Vinci’s impact on the artistic and techniques of High Renaissance art advanced Early Renaissance lineages such as Chiaroscuro, linear perspective, emotional expressionism, and naturalism. His style, sfumato, exceeded numerous preceding artists’ techniques.
