Aspects of K-pop Industry
K-pop is a presentation of Korean popular music, a hybrid of American popular music with high reception in major parts of the globe. The K-pop industry is linked with high celebrity suicide rates. Also, it is embedded in the Korean culture, with a lot of young people striving to join the gradually growing industry. Moreover, it is a very competitive industry necessitating zeal, creativity, and high productivity. Above all, K-pop celebrities are expected to exhibit perfection as they are the brand ambassadors of their music label and remarkable work. Therefore, in maintaining a picture-perfect image, they conceal various emotions and struggles that pile-up and overwhelm them in private. In completing an informed analysis on the nature of the K-pop industry, I will manage to identify the major mental health triggers in the industry, thus understanding why there are high suicide rates in the industry. Additionally, it will boost the project’s aim of creating awareness of the mental health disparities among celebrities.
Character Study and Identity
This project’s protagonist is a twenty-four-year-old female K-pop celebrity based in Korea. She is adept at her musical career with a massive social media following. Her cheerful nature acts as a charm to many of her fans, resulting in immeasurable admiration. She is happy, creative, content, and stable mentally based on her motivational social media posts in the public’s eye. However, she struggles with performance anxiety, emotional instability, perfection, sleep, and eating disorders. Moreover, she is bothered by criticism, hence her efforts to hide her flaws from the public. A single scandal overwhelms her psychological mindset, reflecting in her physical performance.
