Complication of PTSD
Posttraumatic stress disorder is a common and serious disorder as it can lead to other complicated problems in the life of a person. For example, it can affect someone’s daily activities, relationships, job or even health. For instance, PTSD can make a person to develop deep mental illness like depression. Also, some of the PTSD patients try to use alcohol or other form of drug abuse to get high and forget about any traumatic memories evolving around them. When this abuse becomes a habit, one may be addicted and stopping it will be another complicated issue.
Eating disorder is a problem that occurs to a person whereby eating habit is disturbed. Although this disorder is not viewed by many as a serious issue as it is not common, the medical practitioner states that it’s a disorder that people should take seriously as it has a root cause and effective treatment should be administered to the victim. In most cases eating disorder is highly brought by unresolved and untreated trauma. Then, if this issue is left untreated, the patient may experience physical and psychiatric illness.
Lastly, PSTD can lead to suicidal thoughts. According to researchers, about 44,000 people commit suicide in the United States as a result of PSTD illness. Sometimes the PSTD victims may think or feel as if their life is coming to an end and the only solution they think of is suicide. Also, there are other factors that can increase suicidal thoughts to a PSTD patient. For example, when a victim owns a gun there is a high possibility of committing a suicide crime. In case a victim has no support from the individuals around them and sometimes this thought can occur because of the family background’s history where there have been cases of Suicides.
